As the third Nowra Bridge takes shape before our eyes, a local antiques collector has shared some delicate items that speak of a time when the original Nowra Bridge was the iconic landmark for visitors to the Shoalhaven.

From the 1920s onwards, holiday makers in Nowra could take home a china dish, jug or vase bearing a painting of the bridge as a souvenir of their visit.
Local collector Adam Manly has about 60 such pieces of Shoalhaven "souvenir ware" in his collection, but his links to the Nowra Bridge don't stop there. Read more.
Former youth leader in court over alleged South Coast historical child sex abuse
Police received information six boys had been sexually assaulted by a man while under his care at religious youth groups in Nowra, Bomaderry and Kings Cross between 1968 and 1990.
Following extensive investigations, a 68-year-old man, who was a former youth worker, was issued a court attendance notice on Thursday, June 10 for 33 offences including buggery, indecent assault, sexual assault and incite indecent act on a person. Read more.
Writer Inspired by Nowra's Winds
Allison Tait, Shoalhaven's own children's book author is about to publish The Wolf's Howl - the second book in the Maven and Reeve Mystery series.
The book centres around Maven and Reeve, who find themselves in a far-flung gloomy castle where they have to solve the mystery of a missing cook.
Partly influenced by COVID-19 lockdown isolation as well as Nowra's August winds and the sense of irritability that it brings, the story's world is driven by a tempest called The Wolf's Howl. Read more.

Behaviour in Shoalhaven Council is remarkably good says Shelley Hancock
With claims of "misogynistic bullying" in chambers, smear campaigns against a former and the current mayor, and the Wingecaribee Shire Council being suspended in March, questions have arisen as to how councillors are actually supposed to behave and represent their communities.
South Coast MP Shelley Hancock, who is also the Local Government Minister, said the Shoalhaven City councillors "is one of the best functioning in the state", behaviourally and financially, when compared to what she has witnessed in parliament and other local councils. Read More.
L'Étape est L'Scrapped
The Shoalhaven L'Étape bike race is no more.
Organisers Lateral Events cancelled the November 28 race in response to Shoalhaven City Council officially discouraging the event.

'Shoalhaven Goes Gold' in memory of Georgia Fletcher
The not for profit charity Shoalhaven Assistance and Support Inc is inviting all businesses in Nowra and Bomaderry to participate in Shoalhaven Goes Gold by either competing in a 'decorate your business gold' competition or by holding a gold coin donation morning tea.
All proceeds will go to Neuroblastoma Australia - an organisation raising awareness and funds for an aggressive childhood cancer commonly found in adrenal glands. Read more.

Five years after she won silver in Rio, Amanda Reid has gone one better to claim Paralympic Gold in the velodrome.
The Werri Beach athlete turned the tables on the Netherlands' Alyda Norbruis, defeating the defending champion in the women's C1-C3 500-metre time trial.
The 24-year-old eventually stopped the clock in a time of 38.487 seconds, bettering the world record she set in Brisbane last year by almost half a second. Read More.
