Emergency services personnel have been called to the Sturt Highway between Darlington Point and Narrandera following reports of a crash between a truck and a car. Police, paramedics, the Volunteer Rescue Association and Fire and Rescue NSW were called at 7.30am on Friday. The driver in the car was trapped in the crash. An Ambulance NSW spokesman has said the driver later died on the scene. The truck driver was carting grapes and has minor injuries - he will be taken by helicopter to hospital. The Sturt Highway has been closed in both directions near the heavy vehicle Safe-T-Cam monitoring service. Police have declared a crime scene and will investigate the crash. Diversions have been put in place, with drivers heading both west to divert through Narrandera, Leeton, Whitton and then Darlington Point before turning back onto the Sturt Highway. **** While you’re with us, you can now receive updates straight to your inbox every Friday at 6am from The Irrigator.
