Our meeting in Condobolin was again well-attended and we were pleased to welcome guest speaker, Alan Townsend. The following extract was taken by secretary Margaret Smith. Alan told of his time in the Australian Army with the Royal Australian Engineers 17th Construction Company. He joined the army in 1973, served for 21 years and was a sergeant. He comes from a long line of family who served in the First World War, second World War, Korea, Vietnam and Malaysia, and the Kokoda Trail. Two family members won the Military Cross. Alan served mainly in peace time in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and with the Western Australia Air Service Regiment. In 1984 he was sent to Belfast as an exchange sapper. He was then in Fiji and the Solomon Islands working on the emergency Patrol Boats. Our next guest speaker is Fran Mitchell who was a district nurse. - Bruce Howard
