Kembla Grange trainer Kerry Parker's golden spring continues

The five-year-old finished ahead of favourite Harvey's Way and Cream Rises in the 1600-metres race during The Hunter raceday.

Tampering has now won three times this prep, while he also finished fifth in the $700,000 Four Pillars last-start.

The gelding's success follows Think It Over's dominance of the Sydney middle-distance scene this spring.

The star horse won four from six and collected almost $2.7 million in prizemoney throughout the campaign.

While Think It Over has been sent to the paddock for a spell, Tampering is running on and jockey Hugh Bowman said his horse was perfectly placed to prevail on Saturday.

"He likes these bigger rolling tracks and he enjoyed that nice genuine pace set by Tommy (Berry on Caesars Palace) up front," Bowman told Sky Racing.

"I expected to lead to be honest, but Kerry demanded that I didn't push him to lead because he'll overdo it.

"Tommy kept rolling a nice pace, it suited him and when he got out, he had plenty to give and he did it for me."

Parker praised Bowman for his ride and is now considering stepping the horse up in distance for his next start.

"It was perfect," Parker said.

"The horse was travelling, it was just a matter of building momentum and he was able to keep that momentum up and he was strong at the line.

"There's a couple of options there.

"He's still in these BenchMark races but there is a 2000m Midway in a fortnight which he might be a little bit high in now.

"We might have to just keep him to this BenchMark racing now."

Tampering's victory came as Theresa Bateup's Moon Stories finished eighth in the Group 3 Spring Stakes, behind Festival Dancer.
