The historic Hampden Bridge in Kangaroo Valley will be closed for five nights from Sunday, June 21 for essential maintenance work.
Transport for NSW will carry out maintenance work to improve the bridge's safety and stability.
This work includes replacing three major beams and carrying out detailed inspections of the bridge.
During the bridge closure Transport for NSW will also carry out geotechnical investigations on Moss Vale Road, between Nugents Creek and Hampden Bridge.
This work will involve digging and drilling. Noisier work will be completed before midnight and lighting will be directed away from residences where possible.
To carry out this work safely Transport for NSW needs to close the bridge to traffic.
Pedestrian access will be available at intervals.
The bridge will be closed for up to five nights from Sunday to Thursday, June 21-25 between 7pm and 6am work hours.
The work is, of course, weather permitting.
Temporary traffic changes will be put in place - if you would like to leave your vehicle on the opposite side of the bridge, buses will be available to transport people to their homes or businesses located within Kangaroo Valley, between 5pm and 7pm and from 5am to 6am.
Detours for light and heavy vehicles will be via the Illawarra Highway, Macquarie Pass and Princes Highway which are expected to add about 80 minutes to journeys.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists and residents for their patience and apologises for the inconvenience while the essential work is carried out.
Transport for NSW crews also carried out other work on Cambewarra Mountain from May 31 to June 4, with night closures allowing maintenance work including clearing drains, repairing guardrails, replacing signs, trimming vegetation and drainage upgrade works.
