The property, called 'Soul of Gerringong', is located at 143 Belinda Street.
The exact sale price has been withheld, but it sold to a Sydney buyer for above the $4 million asking price.
Earlier this year, the property hit the market for only the third time since it was built about 140 years ago.
Co-selling agent, Ray White Gerringong's Neil Campbell, said the new buyers planned to retain and operate the property "as it is", viewing it as a "great business opportunity".
It was initially scheduled to be auctioned in April.
However, it was withdrawn following restrictions placed on the real estate industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, before being re-listed for private sale.
"We had a lot of inquiries and inspections before, and then COVID hit and so we withdrew it from sale," Mr Campbell said.
"There was a lot of interest, given it's such a beautiful property, and it's a great business they've got running as well."
The property underwent a major renovation by Ben and Simone Mathews, a Sydney-based builder and interior design team.
The Cronulla-based husband and wife team bought the property in October 2015 as an original coastal farmhouse, now transformed into a coastal retreat, with four dwellings sitting across two titles on approximately 1525sqm of land.
They spent nine months restoring the farmhouse and adding some additional dwellings, but ensuring they re-purposed all the original materials on-site, a lengthy process Mrs Mathews described as a "labour of love".
The property now consists of a four-bedroom farmhouse, two-bedroom pool-side cabana, one-bedroom studio barn and a separate three-bedroom cottage sleeping up to 22 people.
Mrs Mathews said their goal had been to "create a new style of accommodation" for the South Coast.
"It was about blurring the line between a holiday house and a boutique hotel," she told the Mercury earlier this year.
"When we came to the town, the property had been one of the original farmhouses, and it had the soul of the town in it.
"It had sentimental value to the locals in the community... We wanted to return it to its former glory, but bring it to today's expectations in a property."
'Soul of Gerringong' opened in late 2017.
Mrs Mathews said it quickly became a sought-after haven which is booked out months in advance.
The property was being sold with the 'Soul of Gerringong' business attached.
