TWO great finals matches capped off what was another successful National Indigenous Football Championships at Ison Park, South Nowra.
After two days of tough competition, four teams were left standing to contest the men's and women's finals on Saturday (November 2)
Illawarra Bungarra went into the women's final as favourites but the Newcastle All-Stars pushed them all the way.
The Illawarra side won the match 3-2 and an own-goal was the difference between the two teams.
The All-Stars, thanks to a goal from Milan Hammond, let its more fancied rival know they had a game on their hands.
Illawarra, just before the halftime break, scored a vital goal from Tenaya Davis' boot and the second half was played at a cracking pace.
The heat was stifling at times and both teams did well to go the distance.
In the men's final Northern Nations took on Dhubi Dinawans from Dubbo and this contest was another great match.
Northern Nation got the early advantage thanks to a Matthew McNab goal and then play swept from one end of the field to the other.
With locals Thomas Matthews and Lewis Archibald in the side Northern Nations went onto win 3-2.
