The group will host its 11th anniversary celebrations on Tuesday, March 5 in the downstairs room at Nowra Library.
Everyone is encouraged to join the celebrations from 10am, enjoy morning tea and a friendly chat.
The club was created by Rae Watson, who placed an ad in the South Coast Register requesting volunteers to knit or crochet woolen squares, to make rugs for charity.
Rae’s first recruits were Lyn Thaler and Pat Roberts, followed shortly after by Connie Mee and Joan Davis.
They soon found their new home at Nowra Library. Their membership numbers have increased over the years, and while not all can join the monthly gatherings, some leave their creations at the library where staff kindly store them until they can be collected.
Finished wraps are collected by more than 20 non-denominational and non-political aid agencies and taken to a warehouse in Alexandria, NSW.
From here they are distributed to other charities working directly with communities in need.
As of 2012 World Vision Australia had distributed to Armenia, Romania, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Zambia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Laos and Thailand.
In 2013 they distributed more blankets and wraps to Burundi, Malawi, Mongolia, Swaziland, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
Wrap with Love is always welcoming new members. Call in and see the group at its meeting on the first Tuesday of every month. You’ll be introduced to all the lovely ladies and receive a demonstration of what they do and how they do it.
The group has morning tea and a good natter in a warm and friendly environment.
If you can’t attend the meeting, instructions on how and what to do, is set out on separate sheets that are available in the upstairs of the library.
