To gain this honour, the 18-year-old Huard was first nominated by his school, for potential selection in the AICES (Association of Co-Educational Independent Schools) team.
“Being one of the AICES players selected, I was then able to attend the CIS trials over two days in Blacktown,” Huard said.
“From there, I was picked in the CIS cricket team to attend a carnival in Bathurst, where we played against CHS 1, CHS 2 and CCC [a side which contained Jarrett].
“From my performances, I was picked as a shadow player for the NSW All Schools cricket team.
“After someone pulled out, I was called up to play in the NSW vs QLD All Schools cricket championships.”
Huard, from Cambewarra, and his NSW side, which was supposed captained by Nowra High School’s Kaleb Phillips before he had to withdraw due to State Challenge commitments, will open their week with a three-day game, beginning on Tuesday against Queensland at Bexley Oval, before a 50-over match on Friday at Hutchinson Oval.
“I expect a very high level of cricket will be played by both teams, as we endeavour to play to our full potential as players and as a team,” Huard said.
“Personally, I hope to display my skills as a batsman and be serviceable to the team not only with the bat but in the field.”
Huard, who is a North Nowra-Cambewarra product, ranks this opportunity as the highest achievement of his career to date.
“Making this team means a lot to me as a cricketer, as I seek to make the most of this great opportunity that has emerged,” Huard said.
“I'm blessed to be in the position to represent NSW in the sport that I love and enjoy playing.
“I'm excited to see how I go in these championships.”
