Phillips, 17, was selected into this state school side, following a strong showing at the NSW All Schools Open Cricket Championships in Bathurst – where he lined up for the NSW Combined High Schools side alongside Bomaderry High School’s Luke Day.
During the carnival, Phillips, who also captained the CHS side, managed scores of 74, 15 and six – leading to his selection in the All Schools side.
“It means a lot to me to be selected in this All Schools team,” Phillips said.
“Being picked for your state is pretty serious but more importantly, to be the captain of your state is a huge honour and something that I’m proud of and wasn’t really expecting.
“It’s right up there in terms of personal achievements.”
Phillips’ side will take on the Queensland team in a one-off match in Sydney in September, a challenge he is thoroughly looking forward to.
“My expectations going into the carnival are definitely high,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to playing a high standard against a strong team.”
Phillips, a North Nowra-Cambewarra product, believes playing with St George in Sydney has helped take his game to another level.
“Playing with the Saints in Sydney this year has definitely helped me a lot and I’ve learnt so much in one year,” he said.
“I’ve really enjoyed all the experiences I’ve had at this high level of cricket and look forward to more in the future.”
Also playing at this carnival were Nowra Anglican College’s Luke Huard, representing the Combined Independent Schools, and St Johns’ Kyle Jarrett, who played for the Combined Catholic Colleges side.
