FINALIST IN: Excellence in Small Business, Excellence in Sustainability
Curran Plumbing is proud to be a finalist in two categories for the upcoming Shoalhaven Business Awards.
Director Pat Curran puts the success down to his team’s concern for their clients. “Our team is diverse and committed to achieving the best outcome they can for the customer,” he said.
That 15-strong team consists of a service manager, installations manager, service technicians (who travel throughout the Shoalhaven), customer service representatives, dispatch and apprentices.
Pat and Kerrie Curran started the long-standing business in 1990. “I am a second generation plumber,” Pat said. “My father owned a plumbing business in Caringbah and a dairy farm in Berry for many years and when I moved to Berry, my wife Kerrie and I set up our own business.
“Our son now works with us as service manager – he is a third generation plumber.”
Curran Plumbing offers everything you might expect – residential, commercial and industrial plumbing services. “We also offer state-of-the-art trenchless ‘no dig’ pipe relining technology,” Pat said.
“There is a lot more of a focus on providing environmentally sustainable solutions to people’s plumbing issues.”
And beyond that, Pat said, he wants to overhaul the cliched image of a tradie.

“I believe that people have a preconceived image of a plumber as somebody with their bum-crack showing and a cigarette in their mouth,” he laughed.
“To combat this stereotype, Curran Plumbing ensures all their staff are incredibly well-groomed, always polite and extremely professional.”
He knows the business is special, and this can be seen in its professionalism and integrity.
“Even if Curran Plumbing has a negative customer, we will do everything possible to ensure they leave happy and turn it into a positive experience,” Pat said.
“Curran Plumbing is all about the people in the team. I often say in team meetings “the magic will happen”, meaning that if staff are happy in their work and personal lives, that will rub off on customers they visit.”
Ultimately working with people in the community is a great aspect of the job, according to Pat.
“Visiting people’s homes and getting to know them, solving their problems and hearing their stories is absolutely amazing,” he said.
“We have lived and worked in the community for many years. We have also employed dozens of local people and given many young locals a start in the plumbing industry. After all, it’s a great place to live and grow your business.”
