FINALIST IN: Outstanding Young Employee (Jordan Pearson), Excellence in Small Business
Being a finalist in the Shoalhaven Business Awards is the pinnacle of what Nowra Flooring Xtra has been striving for since opening in 2010. The business specialises in retail flooring and window coverings, installation and products.
Owners Arron Brewer and Valerie Baker were stoked to see the business a finalist, as well as their sales team member Jordan Pearson. “The entire process of entering the awards has been rewarding in itself,” Mrs Baker said.
“We worked together as a team during the application process and it actually helped to strengthen our goals and direction. We have seen some amazing growth in the business and it is really nice to be recognised for all the blood, sweat and tears that have gone into getting to where we are today. It is even more rewarding to be recognised by your peers who have 'been there and done that' and so know what it is like to own a small business.”

Valerie said it was fantastic to see Jordan acknowledged in this way. “Jordan approaches everything he does with 100 per cent commitment,” she said. “He is also a great team player and brings an uplifting spirit to our team. Jordy is studying a diploma in leadership and I can see that in the future he will make a great manager.”
Also contributing to the professional and skilled team, are 10 full-time installers, five office and sales staff and one window measurer.
Since opening, Nowra Flooring Xtra’s goal has been to do something different, think outside the square and avoid being a cookie-cutter flooring business – and that’s been their secret to success. “Everyone here [employees] also has the freedom to come up with new ideas and put back into both our strategies and our operations – so everyone is really connected with the success of Nowra Flooring Xtra,” Valerie said.

“We believe that our future is in offering design solutions for our customers, packaging together flooring, window-coverings and soft furnishings. We want to bring something special to our beautiful Shoalhaven and support the community while we are at it.”
The team hopes to see everyone at the upcoming Noah’s Challenge – The Amazing Race on Sunday, October 21, which they will be a part of again this year.
