The bushfire period officially commenced this week and the Shoalhaven could be facing a difficult and busy bushfire danger period.
Shoalhaven RFS operations officer Paul Gooey said the increased fuel load was of concern.
He said coastal areas got some rain during the winter, meaning there was more growth, which will dry out over the summer and create potential bushfire hazards.
Areas around Sassafras and inland from Milton had not received the same amount of rain but according to Mr Gooey were dry and hazardous now.
Mr Gooey said there was no need to panic.
He said the RFS volunteers were prepared to help members of the public devise plans to protect themselves and their properties.
“A fire emergency and fire plan will put you in good stead all year round and RFS volunteers are happy to help people with their fire plans,” Mr Gooey said.
