South Africa climb to 14 points on the competition table, level with New Zealand, and they host Argentina in their final clash in Durban next weekend while the All Blacks are at home to the Wallabies.
"To come here is very hard. Argentines are very passionate people and they take pride in their rugby," Springboks captain Siya Kolisi said at the post-match presentation.
"For us to get a bonus point was special.
"Argentina played really well, it was a great battle. It has been tough for us and we had to pull together as a group."
The visitors' scores at Estadio Libertadores de America on Saturday came via a penalty try, halfback Jaden Hendrikse, two for Marx and centre Damian de Allende as they dominated the first half with their power game.
They led 22-6 at the break before being given a scare in the second period.
Argentina roared back in the final 15 minutes and brougt it back to 22-20 before the Boks pulled away again. The home side were also awarded a penalty try to go with a five-pointer from centre Matias Moroni.
"The first half we weren't where we wanted to be in terms of defence and discipline," Pumas captain Julian Montoya said.
"In the second half our attitude was much better and we kept going. But it wasn't enough.
"We have to learn from this, you have to play for 80 minutes if you want to win against the world champions."
