According to an analysis from Lonergan Research, commissioned by Stayz, 2022 is shaping up to be the 'year of dog-friendly travel'.
More pet owners are looking for domestic holidays where they can bring their beloved pooch, and beach destinations are the most popular choice.
"Our research shows that pet-friendly homes are the most important factor (70%) when thinking of travelling domestically with dogs," Stayz travel expert Simone Scoppa said.
"One in five Australian Stayz listings are pet-friendly... NSW takes out the top spot for most pet-friendly holiday homes by a whisker, followed by Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.
"Interestingly though, Victoria had the most destinations [in the top five] with more than 90 homes in each; Rye on the Mornington Peninsula taking out the top spot with more than 180 dog-friendly holiday homes to book."
Stayz' data analysis predicts more than half (55%) of Aussie dog owners are already planning travel trips with their four-legged friends this year. That's estimated to be more than two million households.
At Culburra Beach, around one in five holiday rentals welcome pets. This is double the national figure; on Stayz, one in 10 holiday home listings in Australia are are pet-friendly.
