While the forecast wasn't great, six yachts lined up and ready to start the Inside Course, scratch start.
As we did not have the services of our Committee Boat the start was a gate start run by Fly Navy Too (Greg and Ronda) and five yachts got underway on time.
Unfortunately, HooRoo (Andy, Lou and Janette) experienced gear failure and by the time it was fixed they were a bit late to the start but did eventually get under way.
The forecast was for a 10 -12 knot southerly and possible showers and it was unusually accurate though there were some very frustrating wind shifts that made rounding some marks a real challenge.
Southern Cross (Greg and Lynne) and Fly Navy Too battled it out at the front throughout the race with Southern Cross eventually crossing the line first just ahead of Fly Navy Too.
Time Out (Scott and Mel) and Salty Tiger (Greg and Darren) had a great tussle for the third and fouth places with the positions changing a number of times over the course of the race.
Eventually Salty Tiger prevailed crossing the line in third and Time Out fourth.
Synergy (Steve) was sailing alone for most of the time but because of the nature of the course had some close racing with HooRoo even though they were quite a way behind.
Synergy crossed in 5th place and HooRoo decided not to finish the race as they were a long way behind due to their late start.
Unfortunately, lasst week's race was yet again affected by the weather, the howling southerly enough to deter a majority of the fleet, leading to the cancellation of the race.
The last race of 2021 is an Inside Course, scratch start, on December 18, but as there are a number of yachts unavailable it's possible this race may not go ahead either, a final decision will be made on Saturday morning
This is probably the last report from SIBYC for 2021 so we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
