The Illawarra Kareelah Orienteers aim to promote and organise orienteering events in the Illawarra/South Coast region.
The club-based organisation is seeking to expand its membership base by introducing non-orienteers to the sport.
And that starts on Saturday, December 11 in Berry, with the group staging an orienteering event in and around the township.

The group aims to stage fun and enjoyable experience in the urban environment or in the traditional form of orienteering in natural forests and bush.
Orienteering is a sport that requires participants to run and navigate through a forest or urban terrain using the natural or manmade features to navigate to check points on a marked course drawn on their map.

Levels of difficulty are also provided by allowing individuals to choose a course that suits their proficiency and fitness.
No special equipment or attire is needed, but clothing should be cool and comfortable, and jogging shoes are recommended.
For the orienteering event in Berry on December 11, just turn up between 3pm and 4pm at the pavilion, which is located on the west side of the Berry Showground.
Registration is on the day, and tuition will be provided.
You will receive a detailed orienteering map of the Berry township and surrounds which looks much like a street directory with your chosen course printed on it.
As long as you can read a street directory you will have no problems.
Everyone is welcome to come and try orienteering and at the same time wind your way around the streets and open spaces of beautiful Berry.
Parking is inside the showground (western side), access via Albany Street and park immediately north of the swimming pool. Look for the club flag adjacent the north east side of the pavilion
There will be three courses offered on the day - a 5.6km long course, a 3.4km medium course and a 1.3km short kids course. (note children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult supervisor).
