The Bomaderry High School alumnus top-scored against his former side, with 87 from 136 deliveries - a knock which included five boundaries and four sixes.
With the red ball for the hosts, whose side is headlined by Ulladulla's Matthew Gilkes, Sean Abbott (6-38) and debutant Tanveer Sangha (3-44) led the way.
In reply, NSW ended day one 2-43, thanks to 25 from 55 from Gilkes.
When play resumes on day two of the pair's opening Shield fixture of the season, Kurtis Patterson (eight not out) and Harry Conway (zero not out) will be at the crease for the hosts.
