Every minute counts
Lou, for Shoalhaven's partners in health, it's not a problem; Illawarra has five hospitals and an average travel time of only 11 minutes.

They also have 60 hospital beds above NSW's pro rata allocation.
Shoalhaven is short 60 hospital beds, Illawarra has the beds. And they are taking the annual staffing wages; for 60 beds, that's around $46 million. Bay and Basin and Milton Ulladulla are missing out on annually!
And that plan Illawarra Shoalhaven Area Health revealed is 10-years-old. Pre COVID-19 buildings are now redundant; they'll need to be re-adapted to serve new purposes.
Architects predict an increase in modular construction, larger building footprints, flexible building design, lightweight architecture, and unique layouts.
The World Health Organisation recommends natural ventilation clean air flowing into every space, from clean air to less clean air. "Use of fences to avoid passage of people close to openings (windows and doors), keeping people or animals at a distance at least of 4m."
So is it wise to locate the hospital in a residential area where there will be multiple hospital ventilation stacks? Or would the hospital be better on a larger footprint in a rural location?
The Ex-Servos did it with their brilliant greenfields development at Worrigee. So can the NSW Government with our hospital. The Shoalhaven community needs to have a conversation before we spend all these millions.

Why Nowra should have V8 car racing track
Nowra is an area which has a lot of people not working and a race complex would create a wonderful opportunity for extra employment and give the coast another lift it needs. Find another area for this wonderful opportunity to go ahead and have car and bike racing on the South Coast.

Cost blows out for LG election
A Letter to SCR Editor published September 22 from Joan Crabb, highlights not only how the Minister for Local Government is inactive on COVID related matters over the LGAs, but it must be also raised the disaster that Local Government Elections are becoming.
The costs of holding council elections in NSW has ballooned to $146 million, as reported by Matt O'Sullivan on September 24 in The Age.
Last month the government was warned by the Electoral Commission, John Schmidt that the elections could potentially fail. He also recommended in a report last year that government opt for a full postal vote, but the government ruled it out. This report estimated a $54 million saving.
It is now too late, he believes to amend the legislation to enable postal-only voting on December 4, supported by limited internet voting.
Another poor judgement call by the Minister. Imagine if the extra funding could have been spent in the Shoalhaven for the extra housing this area is crying out for.

Milton Ulladulla bypass questions
Traffic will bottleneck on the Burrill Lake bridge both ways during holiday periods if you dump the end of the bypass at Canberra Crescent.
That will add another roundabout to a congested area giving us four tiny roundabouts within two kilometres. We already have the noise pollution of heavy vehicles having to brake to enter each roundabout and then work through the gears to get to the next one three times at the moment.
These tiny roundabouts are not suitable for heavy vehicles. Get them away from this section of the highway by putting the bypass out west without roundabouts.
