At her maiden Games, the Sussex Inlet product powered home in the S10 women's 100-metre butterfly timed final, to touch the wall in 1:07.89.
That time was just 0.37 seconds behind United States' gold medalist Mikaela Jenkins (1:07.52).
Rounding out the podium was Dutch swimmer Chantalle Zijderveld, who finished in 1:07.91.
"Going into the race, I was really nervous - I couldn't sleep and my heart was pounding," Greenwood told Channel Seven.
"Then a couple of things happened, like our bus was late, which made me freak out a little.
"Thankfully when I hit the water, the race went really quickly and I'm so relieved and proud to walk away with the silver medal.
"It was an exceptionally close race, that went down to the wire - as we didn't get a chance to swim a heat, it felt great to be part of an exciting contest like that.
"Considering all the circumstances we've dealt with over the past 18 months, I'm so happy with the result and don't think I could have done any better.
"Resiliency has always been a big thing for me and I try my best to show that in each of my swims.
"At the end of the day, I hope I've made my family, friends and coach Bob back home proud and I hope they're all smiling as much as I am."
This medal is the latest of the Shoalhaven High School student's strong performances at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, following her fifth-place finish in Saturday's S10 women's 100-metre freestyle final.
She won't have long to revel in her achievement though, as the Bay and Basin Amateur Swim Club product will return to the water on Thursday for the S10 women's 100-metre backstroke, before backing it up on Friday in the S10 women's 200-metre individual medley.
