The NSW State of Origin winner, who famously ran down Greg Inglis after laying prone with a knee injury, has played 322 NRL games at the Dragons, Bulldogs, Sharks and Roosters.
Morris, who has scored 157 career tries, is expected to return to the Roosters lineup this week after recovering from a hamstring injury.
"It's been a hell of a ride. I've been able to play in some of the biggest games and form friendships for life," Morris said on Monday.
"The time is right, it was a decision I made halfway through the season.
"As an athlete, my body is starting to failing me.
"My body is telling me it's time to hang them up.
"I'm very content with this decision.
"It's been a wonderful journey and I have no regrets whatsoever."
Morris, whose twin brother Brett announced his own retirement in June, played in the 2012 and 2014 grand finals for the Bulldogs, going down to Melbourne and South Sydney respectively.
He played 15 games for the Blues, as well as six Tests for Australia.
