The NSW short course cross country championships have been cancelled.
The competition was slated to be held at the Kembla Joggers' purpose-built cross country course in West Dapto on August 1 before they were postponed with the intention to reschedule.
After consultation with the club and with cases continuing to rise, Athletics NSW made the decision to call off the event.
"This decision was not made lightly," Athletics NSW said in an email to competitors.
"However the ongoing uncertainty around the COVID-19 situation, and the difficulty in finding a date to reschedule the event made the decision a necessary one to make to ensure the safety of our athletes, volunteers, officials and their families.
"We thank everyone for your understanding and appreciate your support during this challenging time."
This cancellation coincides with the recent announcement that Willandra's state cross country titles, which had already been postponed until July 26, won't be held until September 25 and 26.
