The decision by St George Illawarra Dragons players to go to a party at Paul Vaughan's place in Shellharbour on Saturday night during a lockdown just defies belief.
How could you be so stupid?
Actually that's a rhetorical question because a couple of these players have a pretty good track record of doing stupid things.
Given it's his second COVID breach Paul Vaughan will be very lucky if his contract doesn't get torn up by either the league or the club.
If this group didn't have enough problems making themselves more likeable and attractive to a fan base, then they've just poured petrol on a bonfire.
At a time when businesses are suffering and closing.
At a time when parents with kids on school holidays can't leave the house unless it is to go for a walk.
These peanuts decide it would be a good idea to not only have a party, but do so to the point that police need to be called for a noise complaint?
Mind-numbingly stupid.
It is complete arrogance.
You play football.
You are not above the rest of the community. In fact you owe the community your living.
And right now the ledger is heavily weighted against you.
The Dragons board should be categorically considering the future at the club of every single one of these players involved in this situation because not only do these players have little respect for the community that have none at all for the club.
None at all for the hard-working people who have lost their jobs at the club during this pandemic and no respect for their fans.
At a time when the club is looking to re-establish a culture at the club, are we convinced these players are capable of making the right decisions to do it?
On current evidence you'd say not.
Hang your heads in shame, the lot of you.
The NRL has, rightfully so, come down hard on the players who realistically put the whole competition at risk.
On top of the $1000 fines handed down by the police, the NRL has issued a combined $305,000 in fines and 20 weeks of suspensions, which will be served over a two to four week period.
