President's XV knock off Harriet Ellemans Brumbies for first Super W win

After conceding two early tries, the Brumbies, headlined by Bomaderry's Harriet Elleman, lost 19-13 to the President's XV at Coffs Harbour on Sunday.

They were 12-nil down after just six minutes, but were able to respond and take a 13-12 lead into half-time.

The President's opened the scoring after just three minutes, with Claudia Nielsen swooping on a loose Jane Garraway pass, and then prop Candice Clay crashed over from close range just a few minutes later.

Up stepped Brumbies winger Halley Derera with a brace - beating two to score her first, with her second a long-range effort from inside her own half.

President's outside centre Jasmin Huriwai then scored the winner 11 minutes after half-time, getting on the end of a Tylah Vallance grubber.

The Brumbies weren't helped by a second-half yellow card for Teliya Hetaraka.

They face the Waratahs in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday.

"We'll be nursing a few sore bodies after this one, but there's obviously a lot of opportunity to learn and take some lessons from this game and rectify that, and maybe get a bit of redemption on Wednesday," Hawke said.

He was full of praise for Derera's desire to learn in her first season with the Brumbies.

"She's got elite speed. This is only really her first season in the 15-a-side format," Hawke said.

"She's an absolute gem at picking out information. She wants to learn everything, spends a lot of time reviewing her own game and asking for feedback.

"I'm really happy for her to have a couple of tries on the back of one last game as well."
