Since then, St George Illawarra has been in a free-fall, losing seven of their past eight games and barely hanging onto their top-eight spot.
But Gerringong's Jackson Ford is confident his side can rebound after Monday's tough loss to the last-placed Bulldogs.
"The whole squad was extremely disappointed with the performance we put up against the Bulldogs," Ford said.
"It was a frustrating game to be a part of, as we had our chances to win and were right in it at the break.
"But those two quick tries after half-time really hurt us.
"I feel we lost that match in the middle of the park - we hardly made any inroads against their forwards, who were bringing too much line speed for us to handle."
The 23-year-old, who has made five NRL appearances this season, squashed claims there's a negative vibe around the club at the moment.
"There's no hiding it's a tough spot to be in but everyone is sticking together and know wins are only just around the corner," the Kiama High School alumnus said.
"We know if we keep putting in the time and effort each week at training, it's bound to translate to better performances sooner rather than later."
The Dragons won't get a better chance to reverse their recent form than against the Raiders at WIN Stadium on Saturday, which Ford has labelled a 'must win' for his club.
"The game is so important for our season," he said.
"Not only is Canberra in a similar position to us on the ladder but a win will give everyone the confidence that we are on the right track.
"All home games are crucial to win - even more so when the NRL is celebrating its Beanie for Brain Cancer Round.
"Everyone is really excited for the chance to return to the winner's circle.
"If we all concentrate on our own games and do the little things right, I'm confident we will finish on top come the final siren."
