Jervis Bay Territory State of Emergency extended for a further 30 days

Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories, Nola Marino has announced the declared extension.

By doing this, the JBT community will continue to be protected and supported during this time, with the health and wellbeing of the community the first priority.

The State of Emergency declaration in the JBT under the Jervis Bay Territory Emergency Management Ordinance 2015 provides powers to key members of the JBT Emergency Management Committee, and Emergency Services supporting the JBT, to deal with public health risks associated with COVID-19.

The move comes after the wife and children of a Melbourne man who last week traveled through NSW, including parts of Jervis Bay, while infectious with COVID-19 have tested positive for the virus.

The most recent JBT extension had been May 5, also for 30 days.

The announcement comes a day after Parks Australia announced Booderee National Park at Jervis Bay was being temporarily closed until at least the end of the week due to the COVID-19 alert in the area.

Parks Australia said to protect the health and safety of visitors, staff and local communities, including the park's Traditional Owners - the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community, Booderee National Park will undertake a temporary closure until at least midday on Friday, June 4.

The closure is a precaution following the NSW COVID-19 Jervis Bay Public Health Alert.

A Parks Australia spokesperson the closure would allow NSW Health to complete a risk assessment, and also to allow a deep clean of the Green Patch Campground amenities to happen.

JBT residents should continue to follow Australian Government and state and territory government advice, including on travel restrictions, health, hygiene, physical distancing and self-isolation.
