The hosts opened the scoring of the round seven fixture in the 10th minute when a slick shift to the right Jye Brooker dive over, following a sharp one-handed offload by his centre Ryan James.
That lead was doubled nine minutes later when hooker Ethan O'Connell noticed the Jets' were short out wide and shifted the ball to the left - which led to fullback Jacob Seabrook strolling over.
Skipper Matt Carroll again missed the conversion attempt, as the hosts led 8-nil.
But the Jets, who had Beau Luland, Brayden Swain and Will Braddick on debut, stopped the hosts' momentum and scored a try of their own in the 34th minute when half Kurt Quinlan hit centre Braydon Walsh with an inside pass before the latter slammed it down despite the attention of multiple Shellharbour defenders.
Walsh converted his own try to make it 8-6.
Just before the break, the visitors hit the front following a down-field kick by Quinlan.
After collecting the Quinlan kick, Seabrook was making his way back down-field but had the ball stripped out by winger Swain, for his first try in the top grade.
Walsh's kick made it 12-8 at the break.
Knowing how important this match was to their finals chances, the Sharks came out more determined in the second 40 and soon had their third four-pointer.
Jake Hay's grubber kick took a wicked bounce and eluded Jets' Swain before Brooker tapped the ball back to teammate and former Nowra-Bomaderry player Tyson Simpson to score.
Carroll landed his first kick in the windy conditions and the host led 14-8 with 25 minute to play.
The Sharks skipper, who is now the competition's top ever point-scorer, then put his name on the try-scorers list.
After receiving the ball on the 20-metre line, his right-foot step saw him break through the Jets' line before racing away to score under the sticks.

He converted his own try and the lead was eight.
The Sharks' win was iced in the 73rd minute when a short-side play saw Brooker add a second try.
Carroll converted from the sideline, as the match ended 26-12.
The Sharks, who now have two wins, one draw and three losses in 2021, have the bye next round, while the Jets travel to Kevin Walsh Oval on Saturday to play the undefeated Superoos.
