After more than a decade since the last game of Oztag was played at Rugby Park, plans are currently underway to launch the maiden season of a fresh new competition at Shoalhaven Heads' Vic Zealand Oval.
"We have been planning Shoalhaven Oztag for close to four months, as Steve [Emmett] and I both enjoy playing and coaching kids," competition coordinator Keiron Duncan said.
"We had a meeting with Australian Oztag about us bringing the sport into the area and they have been really supportive for it to kick-off.
"As well as the actual season, we will also be hosting school clinics in July and additional holiday sessions later in the year, to increase the interest levels of people in the Shoalhaven."
With close to 12 years experience in the sport, Duncan is confident he can make the Shoalhaven Oztag competition, which will feature teams from under 6s to opens, a success.
"Growing up in Vincentia, I played sports all across the Shoalhaven up until the age of 20 - so I know how much people in the region love their codes of sport," the 43-year-old said.
"And with a lot of my family still living here, I still have a strong connection to the area.
"As such, Steve and I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring Oztag to the Shoalhaven as a summer afternoon sport to keep active and work on some skills that can be used in many other weekend sports.
"Hopefully down the track, we can provide an opportunity for players who want to play representative Oztag and participate in state cups in the future if they wish."
At this stage, the duo is planning to start the season on October 14.
"We will play our games on a Thursday afternoon for juniors from 4pm and the senior competition will commence at 6pm," Duncan said.
"Parents are able to utilise active kids vouchers for their children's registration costs too."
