With the cooler overnight temperatures and the calmer morning the smoke has settled and it is expected the smoke will clear as the temperature rises throughout the morning.

During the colder night temperatures and air, the smoke sits down but hopefully as the inversion layer lifts the smoke will also lift.

With similar weather conditions predicted for tomorrow residents may experience the same phenomena.

Locally there has been a hazard reduction burn in the central Shoalhaven, with the Pines burn, west of Huskisson being conducted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service over a 23.75 hectare area.

The burn started on April 23 and is expected to continue through until April 30.

To the west of Nowra, the NPWS will also be conducting a hazard reduction burn at Barrengarry Mountain, North Mcphails.

The hazard reduction which is scheduled to burn 116.1 hectares is due to start Tuesday, April 27 and continue through until next Tuesday, May 4.

Also coming up later in the week, just north of Erowal Bay, the Kallaroo and Kinkuna hazard reduction on Crown Land and in the National Park, scheduled for between Wednesday, April 28 and May 5, with plans to burn 15.65 hectares.

And the Harmony Haven Fire Trail burn, east of Wrights Beach is also scheduled to start on Thursday, April 29 and continue until May 6, burning out 47.43 hectares of Crown Land and National Park.

Various local Rural Fire Service crews from throughout the area are also assisting in these burns.

People in smoke affected areas should avoid outdoor activity, close doors and windows, keep pets in a protected area, remove washing from clotheslines and, if driving, slow down and turn on headlights.

Asthmatics and people with respiratory or heart conditions should take appropriate precautions, follow treatment and management plans and keep their medication on hand.
