The event, which is the third stop on the WSL Championship Tour (CT), saw a number of big names and former world champions such as Culburra Beach's Tyler Wright (AUS), Brazil's Italo Ferreira and Hawaii's John John Florence eliminated in the clean, two-to-four foot conditions.
Culburra Beach Boardrider Wright scored a 6.67 and 6.30, for a combined two-wave score of 12.97, but it wasn't enough to overcome France's Johanne Defay and her 13.83.
Wright now exits in equal ninth place, matching her results at Newcastle last week.
After starting the season with a win, the eliminations are not ideal for Wright's world title campaign on the road to the Rip Curl WSL Finals.

But Kiama High School alumna Fitzgibbons didn't suffer the same fate, powering past Avoca's Macy Callaghan with a 14.10 compared to her rivals' 13.73.
Fitzgibbons will now face Brazil's Tatiana Weston-Webb in heat two of the quarter-finals when surfing resumes at Narrabeen.
Culburra Beach's Owen and Mikey Wright were eliminated over the weekend.
