Trains will not run between Kiama and Shellharbour Junction on the South Coast Line this afternoon after a person was injured by a freight train at Kiama.
NSW TrainLink South tweeted about the incident at 2.45pm.
"Due to a person injured by a train at Kiama, #SouthCoastLine trains are suspended in both directions between Kiama and Shellharbour Junction," the tweet read.
"Buses are being organised to run a replacement service."
A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the incident about 2.30pm, following reports a female had been hit by a train.
"Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and commenced inquiries," the spokesperson said.
"The female, who is yet to be formally identified, has been flown to St George Hospital in a stable condition with serious injuries to her legs.
"Inquiries are continuing; no further information is available."
