Mayor Amanda Findley is asking landholders to report any new or unusual plants they may see growing on their property or roadside.
The prohibited priority weed was discovered in Kiama before Christmas.

"It is the first time Parthenium Weed has been found in south-eastern NSW," Cr Findley said.
"Council is working with Local Land Services, Illawarra District Weeds Authority and the Department of Primary Industries to keep this devastating weed in check.
"According to the NSW Department of Primary Industry this weed has been detected in a number of locations in NSW, since April last year. We really don't want it to get a foothold here in the Shoalhaven.
"We are asking community members to be vigilant and to alert our Environment Services team of any suspected sightings."
Parthenium weed spreads rapidly, is dangerous to grazing animals and reduces crop and land values.
Contact with the plant or pollen can cause serious allergic reactions in people.

Shoalhaven City Council supports an extensive weeds program that includes inspections of private and public lands, priority weed spraying, community weed control days and use of spray and environmental contractors to meet seasonal demands.
