The South Coast Register has been unable to contact an RFS spokesperson for comment.
The fire remains at advice level.
UPDATE 4PM: The fire behind Stockland has not yet been brought under control.
A Fire and Rescue spokesperson said a request has been made to RFS for air support.
The fire is moving east towards Millbank Road.
It is understood the RFS is working within the Terara area, east of Stockland towards Millbank Road.
Some residents on Plunkett Street and Morton Parade are standing in front of their homes keeping a worried eye on the smoke and the fire trucks along the side of the road.
Others are less concerned. The streets are quiet, except for emergency service vehicles and rubberneckers trying to get as close to the blaze as possible.
Dryden Close has been closed off, and an ambulance is on standby at one end to treat any firefighters or residents who suffer smoke inhalation.
UPDATE 1.50PM: A grass fire behind Stockland Nowra is moving east towards bushland, a NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson says.
The fire started about 11.20am, and crews have struggled to bring it under control. It is currently listed as 'advice' level on Fires Near Me.
The spokesperson said no properties are currently under threat, but Fire and Rescue trucks are in Junction St, Morton St, Plunkett St, Journal St and Dryden Close, prepared to protect property.
RFS crews and a Fire and Rescue tanker are working on the fire as it moves towards the bush.
EARLIER: Residents near Morton Parade may need to evacuate, as crews are battle a large grass fire behind Stockland Nowra.
Four Fire and Rescue trucks are in attendance, as well as RFS and a number of police vehicles.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said they were called to the blaze near Morton Parade at 11.21am on January 26.
Crews have not been able to get the 60 square metre fire under control but it is not yet spreading quickly.
"Nearby residents should be aware of the blaze and be prepared to evacuate if they have to and take direction from firefighters of or police as required," the spokesperson said.
