I think you would be hard pressed to find someone in the theatre or music community who has not been touched by Merrin's knowledge, generous spirit and love of all things music.
I have worked with Merrin on stage for many years and wow what a powerhouse. Always encouraging, supportive and bringing out the best in her performers.
This is well deserved recognition for a woman who tirelessly continues to foster and keep performance and music alive in the shoal haven
Congratulations, beautiful lady.

Invasion of illegal campers
Sadly, council appears to be out of touch with the region it administers as one of the busiest days for tourism in the region approaches. As Australia Day approached this year an increase of illegal camping by vans and tents was inversely proportional only to the lack of officials in the area to police the local bylaws.
According to previous tourism profiles by council over 3.34 million (2016 Tourism Research Australia's figures) visit the area. With the impacts of COVID in 2020/21 the numbers would appear to be even greater numbers. It's not rocket science to appreciate that those wanting a holiday would select a region in close proximity with excellent facilities.
Local bylaws are established so that everybody, both ratepayers and tourist alike, can enjoy the unparalleled beauty of the region, comfortably and safely. It seems unimaginable that council will pay for staff to work on a Sunday in June, the lowest tourism period for the region according to Tourism NSW, just to catch locals when it does nothing to regulate and administer the same laws during the busiest period of the year.
When you can't park at a local beach at 6am due to the number of overnight campervans or cars "bedded" down there overnight, walk around piles of rubbish that have been dumped next to overflowing bins or pick up human faeces that was a sneaky No 2 as there they were illegally camped it does question how council manages their field staff.

Boutique hotel plan amazing
I think the proposed new project and boutique hotel in Huskisson by Moona Creek is amazing and will make the whole experience of tourists coming to south coast a much better time.

Bypass complacency bites
No crime has been committed but we are all responsible to some degree for the situation now faced, that is, the proposed Milton Ulladulla bypass will come very close to established housing in Ulladulla.
The decades-old plan was habitually reacted to with a "Not in my lifetime!" response and I've been guilty of that too.
The state government, council, developers, builders, real estate agents and homeowners have all brought about the situation now faced, a major highway bypass right next to dwellings.
I choose to lay blame at the feet of the state government for dilly-dallying and the council for opening up the land for housing development knowing the bypass was in the wings.
But we've all been complicit, whether it's out of ignorance, complacency or greed. Surely though the state government can sell the land for a massive profit and move the bypass further west if at all possible, but I'm not holding my breath.

Cricket Australia reads the room
If our Prime Minister can't lead us towards a reconciled country, it is lucky for us Cricket Australia can.
