A development application before council seeks to have the site on the corner of Haigh Avenue and Worrigee Street undergo a major redevelopment that will see the demoliton of the Nowra IGA and the construction of a Taco Bell, a Carl's Jr burger franchise and a 7-Eleven convenience store.
According to the plans lodged with council, the existing Petbarn building will remain but Delicious Noodle and the store next door will be replaced by car parking spaces.
Established in 1962, Taco Bell is an American food franchise, specialising in Mexican burritos, tacos and nachos. The opening of a Taco Bell at Albion Park earlier this year attracted huge crowds.
Another American franchise, Carl's Jr was established in 1956. It has a large presence in Queensland and Victoria and appears to be expanding in NSW.
The Nowra IGA, only purchased by the Fredericks family from Jamberoo this year, announced its January closure last week.
Overall, the site will have 52 car parking spaces.
