A 54-year-old South Coast child care worker charged with the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl was granted strict conditional bail, including a $50,000 surety when he appeared at Nowra Court on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for NSW Education said the department was made aware of a serious allegation against an educator at a long day care centre on the NSW South Coast.
"Due to the seriousness of the allegation, the service has been immediately suspended," the spokesperson said.
"The department is working with families to find alternative care as quickly as possible.
"We will continue to work with police as they complete their investigations and will conduct our own investigation as a matter of urgency.
"The department understands that NSW Police and the NSW Health are working with families and will provide counselling and guidance for parents to talk to their children.
"We are unable to provide any further comments on the specifics of the allegation while the investigations are underway."
Anyone who has a concern or complaint about an early childhood education and care service can contact the department on 1800 619 113 or email ececd@det.nsw.edu.au
