Hundreds of people with disabilities, their families, carers and friends, as well a who's who of the disability support service providers in the Shoalhaven area will be at the expo.
If you have any questions about the NDIS funding and disability services such as accommodation, day programs, recreation, allied health services, even how to get onto the NDIS, then the answer to your questions are at the expo.
It is on Thursday December 3 from 1pm to 5pm at Nowra Aquatic Centre, 20 Scenic Drive Nowra and entry is free.
There is free entertainment during the event including local well-known singer Mick on Wheels, up-and-coming singers from Stella Studioz, a DJ, fun sport activities, and of course lots of fun in the pool.
Also, at the expo there will also be lots of giveaways and prizes.
The Shoalhaven Disability Expo is fully accessible, with accessible restrooms available.
The event will follow the COVID-19 safe guidelines including ensuring the area does not get overcrowded.
There is plenty of parking in the Nowra Aquatic Park carpark as well in the surrounding roads. Nowra Aquatic Park hosts an array of accessible features to make your next visit as easy as possible.
The aquatic park has an accessible change facility and also has an aquatic wheelchair custom build for water access and a fully accessible access ramp for access to the 50-metre outdoor pool.
The park also has a splash play park that allows everyone to relax and play under the water jets and sprinklers.
The Shoalhaven Disability Expo is being held on December 3 because it is the International Day of People with a Disability (IDPWD).
The IDPWD is celebrated all over the world. The 2020 theme is 'Not all Disabilities are Visible'.
This focuses on spreading awareness and understanding of disabilities that are not immediately apparent, such as mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue, sight or hearing impairments, diabetes, brain injuries, neurological disorders, learning differences and cognitive dysfunctions, among others.
According to the WHO World Report on Disability, 15 percent of the world's population, or more than 1 billion people, are living with a disability.
Of this number, it's estimated 450 million are living with a mental or neurological condition - and two-thirds of these people will not seek professional medical help, largely due to stigma, discrimination and neglect.
If you would like to come along to the Shoalhaven Disability Expo go to here to reserve your free tickets.
The first 30 people to arrive at the Expo will get a $5 coupon to use at the pool cafe.
