Unfortunately NAIDOC had to be postponed from its usual June date, due to concerns about COVID-19.
This year's theme is "Always was, always will be" and recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.
At the Shoalhaven City Council NAIDOC morning tea on Monday, November 9, the short film 'Walking on Country' was shown.
The four-minute film showcases local Aboriginal people's connection to country.
The video was developed in partnership with local Indigenous Elders and Shoalhaven City Council.
It was funded by NSW Government and promoted across Council's social media channels in August 2020. It received more than 100,000 views.
At the same event Uncle Noel Butler said it was important for all Australians to respect country.
"Each of us must learn to live with all other living things," he said.
"What we don't value disappears."
Due to COVID-19 concerns, the annual Shoalhaven NAIDOC Family Fun Day will not go ahead this year.
