The final score was 15-7 to the Cardinals.
Many new players joined the team and some younger players took the step up to represent Mariners in the Illawarra comp. It was good to see the enthusiasm and dedication to make this a good game for all involved.
Mariners started the innings out at bat with Copper Stibbard hitting a ball out to left field before making his way around bases to get the first run scored.
Alex Felemegas also had a hit into right field which brought in two runs for a total of three runs score for first innings.
Mariners went into the field, but the Cardinals provied too strong with their base running gaining five runs across home plate.
In the second innings the Mariners were able to gain three more runs scored before getting out.
It was really great to see this innings the beautiful sportsmanship showed by Cardinals' pitcher Pat Vaughan and catcher Jake Roux who noticed one of the young Mariners was distressed by the speed of Pat's pitching.
Jake called time and made sure the young player was okay.
Jake and Pat both decided to slow down the pitchers a bit to give the young man a fair go.
With the game still close, there was no thought for the result, just the welfare of the player.
Cardinals up to bat next having two good hits into the outfield bringing in five more runs.
The third and final innings was a quick one for Mariners having only bringing in one run to end their score at seven runs scored.
Cardinals then went into bat for the last time and this saw a pitching change and some massive hits, with Matt Bunder hitting a home run bringing in an impressive four runners including him.
Pitching duties were shared between Cooper Stibbard, Alex Felemegas and Lochlan Quiney. Catching for the day was Riley Mason.
Unfortunately with the heavy down pour on rain Thursday Ison park was too wet to run T-Ball and baseball on Friday, but not to worry the children will be back ready to play this week.
The club is still looking for any interested in playing aged three-14-years.
