The Kiama Lions Cottage, built by the Kiama community in 2019 will host six deserving carers this week, in support of the 2.8 million unpaid carers in Australia alone.
Each carer will be treated to a three-day escape at the beautiful newly-renovated beachside retreat.
The South Coast community has also donated a selection of local hampers, gifts and products to the carers staying at the cottage from businesses including Kiama Farmers Market, Kiama Meals on Wheels, Parfait Patisserie and Manning St Cellars.
Sandra Biggs, who is currently staying at the cottage, said the experience was "wonderful".
Ms Biggs is sole carer to her sporty, social 18-year-old son Luke, who has Down Syndrome.
"It's such a relaxing, comfortable environment," she said.
"It's not the sort of thing we get to do very often. Often kids with a disability are very attached to their primary carer, and it can be difficult to leave them even for a trip to the shops.
"To be able to go out or stay in by myself, without a time limit or any expectations has been wonderful."
Ms Biggs, who is originally from Sydney, said the other highlight of her stay was the opportunity to connect with other carers.
Two other carers were also staying at the cottage at the same time, and while all the rooms are set up for complete privacy, there was also room to connect.
"Networking with other carers is absolutely essential," she said.
"On a day-to-day basis not a lot of carers get to do that.
"You might get a new idea about something, and be able to look for a different solution.
"Sometimes just knowing that you don't know, and you can't fix things, and other people feel that way too helps alleviate that frustration."
Ms Biggs said her, and other visitors', gratitude towards the Lions Club and the Kiama community "couldn't be matched".
"Hopefully many more come through the cottage doors."
