Johns raced over the 14 kilometres in 20 minutes, 33.96 seconds to be 46 seconds faster than his previous win in 2018.
Johns was pressed all the way by Coby Muir, who stopped the watch in 20 minutes 52.94 seconds and Mark Astley who had a time of 21 minutes, 2.26 seconds.
While Astley has been a medallist on previous occasions, Muir is new to this scene in only his second year of racing.
Then there is an even younger challenger in 15-year-old Curtis Trkulja, who put up a time of 21 minutes, 13.12 seconds.
Phil Rice improved his time by almost 40 seconds to take the B grade win with an A grade time of 21 minutes, 10.32 seconds.
Rice's training pals, Mark Williams and Ben Wallis were second and third in B grade with Williams recording 21 minutes, 40.75 seconds and Wallis in 21 minutes 42.50 seconds.
Amelia Trkulja surprised many with her time of 23 minutes, 33.13 seconds to show that as and under 19 junior the Nowra Velo Club has another talented young woman on the scene.
A grade rider Ben Rolfe was the fastest rider over the course on a standard road bike.
Ben had no aero handlebars, no disc wheel or aero helmet and he covered the distance in 21 minutes, 34.82 seconds.
Gavin Nethery was next best in this category in 22 minutes 20.06 seconds.
Nethery also placed fourth overall in B grade.
Michael Berriman was the third best non aero rider. His time was 23 minutes, 6.21 seconds.
Henry Wakeford is no stranger to time trial medals and he collected another one in this event with the C grade win.
Henry went under the twenty three minute barrier to post a time of 22 minutes, 56.44 seconds.
Jason Spence was second in C grade (23:48.85) and Rob Pickard was third (23:51.93) after clipping time of many of his younger competitors.
Adam Stephenson (24:06.32) and Liam Wallis (24:15.84) were next best in the C grade.
Steve Daley missed this event last year but raced back into a winning position by taking out the D grade event in 24 minutes, 24.50 seconds.
Daley was comfortably faster than last year's D grade winner, Martyn Smith whose time this year was 25 minutes, 16.07 seconds.
Kate Darke was third in 25 minutes, 53.91 seconds.
The Nowra Velo Club returns to criterium racing next weekend with round 10 of the 2020 Optus Series and then the second round of the club championship series follows a week later with the mountain championship.
