In the same period there were 165 motorcycle crashes in the Shoalhaven area, resulting in 184 casualties.

This October, Motorcycle Awareness Month aims to encourages drivers and other road users to be aware and mindful of motorcycles on the road.

Shoalhaven City Council together with Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and Stay Upright Motorcycle Training are running a subsidised training session on motorcycle safety.

There will be two sessions available in Bomaderry on Friday, October 16, at 8am-11am and 1pm-4pm.

The course will cover a range of motorcycle safety topics to encourage a smoother transition for learner riders and valuable safety practices for experienced riders.

Mayor Amanda Findley encouraged new and experienced riders to enrol.

"Stay Upright sessions are not only full of fun, but also improve on the physical and mental skills you picked up while earning your L Plates," Mayor Findley said.

Wayne Clarke, Stay Upright National Training Manager and Multiple Australian Champion will run the course.

The session cost is usually $159 per person, however for Motorcycle Awareness month it has been subsidised to $79.50. Bike hire is included in the fee, however attendees are welcome to use their own.

Each session is limited to six participants, and participants must have a Learners Permit to enrol in the session.
