At midday on Friday the traffic on the Princes Highway is already starting to back up.
As of 12:45pm on October 2, traffic southbound on the Princes Highway is backed up from Berry to the Nowra Bridge.
Live Traffic NSW has warned motorists to take care and leave plenty of time.
Google maps is also showing heavy traffic around the Jervis Bay Road intersection, heading into Milton and through the centre of Ulladulla.
Double demerit points are in effect for the long weekend, starting at 12.01am on Friday, October 2 and finishing at 11.59pm on Monday.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward urged motorists to take care.
"Crash rates go up during holiday periods, which is why everybody should expect to see more Police on our Princes Highway and other local roads," he said.
"I want everyone to enjoy themselves and have a terrific time, but more importantly, I want them to arrive at their destination safe and sound."
