The work will consist of prescribed burning of vegetation in and around The Wool Road area to reduce bushfire fuel and assist in reducing the intensity and adverse impact of bushfires and extreme weather conditions.
The burn will be undertaken by the Rural Fire Service anytime over the next four weeks, with the preferred dates being between September 26-29, but will be subject to weather conditions.
Hazard reduction notification has been distributed to local residents in the surrounding areas of The Wool Road and Wool Lane.
The notification outlines the works to be undertaken as well as basic precautions residents need to undertake.
Numerous residents backing onto the bushland along Anson Street have vehicles, trailers, wood piles etc.
These must be removed by the owners prior to the proposed start date of September 26.
As the prescribed burn will generate smoke it is important that you consider the following -
Ensure any assets such as woodpiles, vehicles etc that are located in the bushland are removed prior to the burn.
Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes.
Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns.
Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage.
Remove washing from clotheslines.
Ensure pets have a protected area.
If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep the windows up and turn headlights on.
If you have asthma or a lung condition reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice.
For further information contact the Shoalhaven RFS District Office between 9am and 4:30pm weekdays. Or gain additional information on the NSW Rural Fire Service website at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au
If weather conditions become unfavourable on the scheduled burn day, the hazard reduction burn will be postponed until conditions become suitable.
