The event has been hosted by the Shoalhaven chaper lead of the Defence Aboriginal Torris Strait Islander Network (DATSIN).

DATSIN is made up of tri-service and APS members of the Australian Defence Force who self-Identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.

During the Albatross cultural immersion workshop, personnel were given a boomerang throwing demonstration and lessons by local Raymond Timbery.

There are several chapters around Australia lead by Directorate of Indigenous Affairs (DIA) - Brindabella Park in the ACT.

DIA encourage leads to use DATSIN as a platform to connect service and APS Indigenous members together to promote well-being, safety and education through a cultural connection.

This helps DATSIN leads meet for monthly Yarning Circles as a way to check-in with each other and table any concerns or discussions in a safe manner.

Working with Project Officer Navy Indigenous, Chief Petty Officer Tina Elliott, the group have made local connections with traditional custodians and community members of this area and through these connections have a better understanding of history, heritage and culture of the land on which they work, live and raise their children.
