This levy is rated on the overall value of the total value of the business properties within the CBD.
The levy can be utilised for improvement to the CBD. I cannot understand why this levy has not been used before.
In regards to the swearing, shoplifting and unsavoury behavior, the CBD and surrounds needs to be cleansed of this insidious kind of person. We all can help to do this, not just rely on our overwhelmed police force. Report what you see, report what you hear. Tell everyone about what you see and hear
We must accept that there is an entrenched issue of this nature within the CBD and surrounds, and it will not change unless you and I highlight the issue and bring some serious focus on cleaning our town up.

Slaughtering JobSeeker
One of Australia's biggest meat corporations says JobSeeker is too generous!
Some of us might imagine that paying the rent or mortgage and feeding the family on $550 a week (soon to be reduced to $400) would not be a bed of roses. But the corporate and industry affairs manager of Teys says this is making people "a little bit too comfortable".
In his mind, the rate should be slashed further, so people will be forced to work in their hellish slaughterhouses, where COVID-19 has been spreading rapidly. There they will spend their days killing terrified animals, at processing speeds that guarantee suffering for both the workers and the animal victims.
Here's a better plan - instead of forcing people into poverty so they can keep the conveyor belts moving, cut the meat from your shopping list, and let's close down these grim death factories.

Don't whinge, listen to the experts
Is there a cartoonist out there willing to draw this picture: Old Bubonic Plague is saying to elderly Small Pox, Influenza and Measles, middle aged Polio and Yellow fever and teenaged AIDS, Ebola and SARS, "Oh to be young again" whilst watching toddler Covid-19 create havoc.
The 'Western' generations born since 1950 have never experienced physical restrictions on behalf of the 'Common Good'. It is time we, including governments, listened to the medical experts and historians to understand real worst case scenarios. Maybe then, we would stop whinging about democratic personal liberties and focus on assisting those who are really struggling, especially economically.

Here's to the mighty recorder
I respond to R. Gillen's letter, 'Don't knock the recorder'. The Recorder has been the first step in many musical careers, not mine though. I still have my Dolmetsch (a Recorder). I went to a Public High School, with the Recorder Consort/Ensemble, based in the Maths Dept because most of the teacher/players were in the Maths dept. The Recorder is also known as Internal Duct Flute with the mouthpiece essentially a whistle and is a member of the woodwind family.
The popularity was strong in the Baroque and Renaissance with a waning and return to popularity. There is serious music that the Recorder is used in, eg. Vivaldi's Four Seasons. The Recorder has been used in contemporary music: Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) played the Recorder in Ruby Tuesday; John Paul Jones (LED Zeppelin) played a number of Recorders in the studio recording of Stairway To Heaven; others have used Recorders in their recordings, eg. Paul McCartney, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen etc. The Recorder is good at representing Bees, Birds, Butterflies. The Recorder is also good at encouraging co-ordination, team work, good breathing technique. Here's cheers for the Recorder!
