The project will eventually link North Nowra with Moss Vale Road, Cambewarra
While work has been carried out at both ends of the proposed road for many months, Shoalhaven City Mayor Amanda Findley undertook the official sod turning to launch the project on Saturday, August 29, marking the start of construction.
A roundabout at Illaroo Road, North Nowra at the intersection with West Cambewarra Road is the first construction stage of the project.
The roundabout is expected to be completed by December this year.

The Far North Collector Road will skirt to the north of the Bernie Regan Regional Sporting Complex, joining up with Taylors Lane with a roundabout before a newly constructed roadway will link the project onto Moss Vale Road at Cambewarra, where traffic lights will be installed.
Cr Findley thanked the Federal Government for the $13.8 million grant towards the project.
"The Far North Collector Road Network provides an important first stage solution to alleviate the traffic congestion on Illaroo Road by providing traffic with an alternate access point to North Nowra," Cr Findley said.
"The road will have numerous benefits including reduced travel time, reduced traffic noise on Illaroo Road, better emergency response times with improved traffic conditions and reduced emissions pollution. "
Once completed the road will also provide an alternative route to Illaroo Road during construction of the new $342 million Nowra Bridge project.
The design/construction of the network is expected to generate an estimated 50 jobs with the entire road expected to be complete by December 2022.
