"The store was possibly closing, we came in at the eleventh hour," he said.
"We were up for a challenge, and everyone has been very supportive."
The new owners have made some changes to the liquor and produce sections, as well as installing new signs and painting the exterior of the store.
If you rely on the IGA for your afternoon hot chip fix, however, you have no need to fear.
"We're keeping the hot food section and looking to expand it - it's a very popular part of the business," Mr Fredericks said.
"There's a lot of traditional shoppers who have been here all their lives, and I think they're glad to keep it."
Mr Fredericks said other plans for the store include the introduction of rewards cards in coming weeks.
