In a flood bulletin issued Sunday morning morning it said moderate flooding is expected at Nowra and Terara Monday morning. Major flooding is possible Monday afternoon, depending on how much rain falls over the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall across the Shoalhaven catchment in the last 24 hours has caused rapid river level rises in the upstream tributaries, with rainfall intensifying in the last 7 hours. Further heavy rainfall is forecast for Sunday.
There is a severe weather warning for Illawarra and parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast and Southern Tablelands Forecast Districts.
What the SES says it expects:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Shoalhaven River. Moderate flooding is likely along the Shoalhaven River Monday morning, major flooding is possible Monday afternoon.
The Shoalhaven River at Nowra (AHD) is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (3.30 m) around 05:00 am Monday and may peak near the major flood level (4.30 m) around 5pm Monday.
The Shoalhaven River at Terara is expected to exceed the moderate flood level (3.00 m) around 5am Monday. The river level may peak near the major flood level (3.90 m) around 5pm Monday.
At Sanctuary Point and Sussex Inlet:
Minor flooding is expected at Island Point and Sussex Inlet on Sunday. Moderate flooding is possible at Sussex Inlet and at Island Point overnight Sunday into Monday morning, depending on how much rain falls on Sunday.
St George Basin at Island Point Road is expected to exceed the minor flood level (1.20 m) around 4pm Sunday. The river level may peak near the moderate flood level (1.50 metres) around 7am Monday, with further rises possible.
Sussex Inlet is expected to exceed the minor flood level (0.90 m) around 10am Sunday. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (1.20 m) around 10:00 pm Sunday and may peak near 1.30 metres around midnight Sunday into Monday with moderate flooding on the high tide.
What's expected:
Based on the prediction provided by the Bureau of Meteorology, it is expected the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters, properties and low-lying areas fronting the St Georges Basin may be affected including but not limited to:
- Fairview Crescent, River Road, Ellmoos Avenue, Poole Avenue, Nielson Avenue, and Wunda Lane
- Low lying areas along the Inlet
- Isolation of Badgee community from 0.8m (will open and close with the high and low tides)
Sanctuary Point
- The Park Drive, Mountain Street and Larmer Avenue
St Georges Basin Village
- Walmer Avenue, Island Point Road, Loralyn Avenue,
Old Erowal Bay
- Prentice Avenue, McGowen Street, Page Street, and areas adjoining Worrowong Waterway.
- Village may be cut off due to water over parts of the road from Sanctuary Point to Vincentia
Basin View
- Basin View Parade, Boathaven Avenue, Harper Road, Watersedge Avenue
