A little might be an understatement compared to what sports fans are accustomed to at Leichhardt Oval. The orange of Balmain was nowhere to be seen.

Instead it was a sea of ACT Brumbies gold running riot with a 24-nil bonus point win over the Western Force, with a spattering of rugby union fans in the stands for a Super Rugby AU clash on Saturday night.

Gone were the giants of rugby league's past like Steve Roach and Paul Sironen. In were Australian rugby's next generation like Brumbies flyhalf Bayley Kuenzle desperate to make a mark.

The playmaker did just that - but the most impressive thing in the eyes of Brumbies coach Dan McKellar and skipper Allan Alaalatoa? Holding the opposition scoreless for the first time in years.

"Off the back of a good start, it was good," Alaalatoa said.

"Over the past couple of weeks we have spoken about improving our set piece and today what was pleasing, was putting it into action. We're setting the standard there and it's something for us to build on heading into next week."

All it took was 90 seconds for the Brumbies, featuring Berry's Will Miller, to announce their arrival when Tom Wright capped off a superb piece of play to open the scoring.

Pete Samu flicked a ball up to Joe Powell from a scrum before he found Rob Valetini surging up on his inside.

He sent the ball to Tevita Kuridrani, and just when it seemed as though the Wallaby would be pulled down, he sent a Wallaby-in-waiting into open space.

And it took all of three minutes for the Brumbies to repeat the dose down their devastating right edge, going 80 metres on the counter attack with Wright and Powell combining before Irae Simone crossed the line.

Just when a knock on gave the Force a golden opportunity to claw their way back, the under-fire Brumbies scrum rose to the challenge.

Moments like Wright leading the chase for his own kick and charging down the Force's return coupled with 50/22 kicks - two by Simone and one from Powell - suggested the Brumbies were always going to find a way when the pressure began to mount.

"It was a hard slog out there and the Force fronted up. They were physical and defended well for long periods," McKellar said.

"Solid first up performance [for Kuenzle], 80 minutes. Tough conditions for him first up, it was wet and steamy.

"I thought [Nick] Frost was good as well in his first start at lock. A good, young developing lock. He'll take plenty out of that."

The Force rallied in search of their first Super Rugby win since 2017 having been welcome back into the revamped premier domestic scene this season.

The hosts, who have been forced out of the west and made to find a home on the east coast, began to repel the Brumbies' charges and stay in the fight.

The Brumbies took a 12-nil lead into the half-time break, and when they returned they might have felt more at home than the home team.

The temperature plummeted the moment Allan Alaalatoa led his players back up the tunnel and the heavens opened.

So it was only natural Will Miller scrambled over the line to extend the lead three minutes into the second half - and of course it was man of the hour Wright sending the ball to the flanker.

McKellar soon called upon a fresh front-row combination to close out the contest with James Slipper and Connal McInerney packing down with Scott Sio.

The changes proved a masterstroke for the unbeaten competition favourites, immediately revitalising the set piece which paved the way for McInerney to crash over and put the result beyond any lingering doubt.

But Slipper hobbled off the paddock with a tight calf as Kuenzle lined up the conversion.

The Brumbies have now leap-frogged the Queensland Reds into first on the ladder heading into their top of the table showdown at Canberra Stadium next week.
